7th International Conference on Education Quality
Power of Potential: Sharing Experiences from Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Journeys
University of Worcester, UK, 26th – 28th June 2024
Inclusion by Design, at the University of Worcester, in collaboration with the INCLUDE Collaboratory, hosted the 7th International Conference on Education Quality (ICEQ).
Universal Design (UD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) have the potential to be powerful conceptual lenses for actioning positive change for ALL learners. Through the Power of Potential Conference, educators, students, and policymakers were invited to share their practice and research-based approaches regarding how UDL has revolutionised all stages of the lifelong learning journey. The organising committee welcomed papers, poster presentations, practise exhibitions, stories, traditional and lightening presentations, and workshops that relate to facets of socially just UD/UDL approaches to realising learning potential.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals are fundamental to our conference proceedings, and submissions were especially encouraged from colleagues in Africa, Asia, Oceania, South America, and across the Global South. To facilitate optimal participation, the conference combined in-person and online engagement. Themes were not been prescribed, as these were shaped by participant submissions. Conference papers and high-quality opinion pieces will be considered for publication in the inaugural publication of the International Journal for Universal Design and Universal Design for Learning, which was launched at the conference.
What is Universal Design for Learning (UDL)?
UDL is a framework and a set of guidelines to optimise teaching and learning by
addressing the educational needs of diverse and variable learners in many settings across
all stages of their learning journey. UDL tackles inequalities and barriers in education, so all
learners can achieve success and have equal opportunities to thrive.
Conference Goals
By engaging in online and in-person sessions that encourage innovative ideas, systematic
thinking, and application of theory to practice, participants will:
- Share personal, organisational, or national journeys regarding UDL.
- Be inspired by others’ stories about innovative ways to embed inclusion in education practices.
- Experience best practices shown by other delegates that may transfer to other education areas.
- Challenge assumptions about how teaching, instruction, and assessments ‘should’ be done.
- Network with local and global communities of UDL practitioners and scholars from different cultures that educate, share, and inspire about UDL in different cultural contexts.
- Expand your access to a wider community of UDL scholars and practitioners and learn from your fellow conference attendees and presenters.
