Strengthening Higher Education Inclusion through Universal Design for Learning

A new online professional development course has been devised by colleagues at the University of Worcester and Universitas Indonesia that aims to provide lecturers in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) with basic insights regarding UDL and its application for course design. The course consists of 4 short modules, should take about 2 hours to complete and is free to access with the unique opportunity to offer feedback to improve the course for the future. The course was funded by the British Council as part of it Global Partnerships initiative which is currently supporting the project titled ‘Strengthening Higher Education in Indonesia and the UK through Universal Design for Learning.

About the project and FREE e-learning course

The project Strengthening Higher Education Inclusion through Universal Design for Learning is a collaboration between Universitas Indonesia (UI) and the University of Worcester (UW) and has been funded by the British Council. This project consolidates and expands existing initiatives focused on inclusion within UI and UW. The aim is to ensure that inclusive practice is embedded in curriculum
design. The first phase of the research has focused on eliciting both the learner and teacher voice in higher education to facilitate the collaborative development of an e-learning course.

At this stage in the project, we are keen to get feedback on the e-learning course.
The course consists of 4 brief modules that consist of:

  • An introduction to Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Multiple means of engagement
  • Multiple means of representation
  • Multiple means of action and expression

Anyone may access the modules for free, but we are especially hopeful that they may be accessed by colleagues in Indonesia who are engaged in our partnership.

To gain access to the course and to help us gain feedback, we will need to collect some basic information about you. We will use this information to contact you so that we can invite you to provide feedback on the course.

You are under no obligation to provide this feedback when we contact you, but any feedback you do provide may be anonymously published as part of the project outputs.

The module authors are Dr Emma Richardson and Helen Wilson (PhD student and Project Research Assistant) from the University of Worcester in collaboration with Astri Setiamurti from Universitas Indonesia.
